Logitech G29 G923 open wheel formula style mod.
Why upgrade the Logitech G29 G923 PlayStation rim at all?
A rim upgrade changes more than appearance. It changes how the wheel sits in your hands, how quickly you catch slides, how your thumbs rest under load, and how much confidence you have through direction changes. That matters more than people think.
The stock G29 wheel is serviceable, but it is not purpose-built for high-input, open-wheel driving. A Formula-style or GT-inspired rim gives you a flatter grip profile, more intentional hand positioning, and often a more race-focused shape. That usually means less wasted movement and a stronger sense of connection when you're pushing.
There is a trade-off, though. Not every upgrade is automatically better for every driver. If you spend most of your time in rally, drifting, trucking, or road cars with lots of steering angle, a round rim still makes sense. But if your sessions are mostly F1, Formula 4, Super Formula, LMP, or GT sprint racing, a more specialized rim tends to feel like the wheel should have come that way in the first place.
How to upgrade Logitech G29 G923 rim without making the wrong buy
The first step is deciding what kind of upgrade you actually want. There are really two paths. You either replace the stock rim with a purpose-built mod, or you move deeper into custom territory with DIY adapters and mixed components. For most G29 owners, the first option is the smarter one.
A proper replacement rim or rim mod is built around Logitech fitment. That means the mounting points, button clearance, paddle access, and overall wheel geometry are designed to work with the base you already own. You avoid the usual headache of buying parts that technically fit but don't feel right once installed.
The DIY route can work, but it often costs more time than expected. You may end up dealing with poor alignment, awkward button reach, or a wheel diameter that makes the force feedback feel duller than before. The G29 is not a high-torque direct drive base, so oversized or overly heavy rims can make the wheel feel slower and softer. That is one of the biggest mistakes people make.
Pick the right rim style for your driving
The best upgrade depends on what you race.
If you mainly drive open-wheel cars, a Formula-style rim is usually the clear choice. The shape supports fixed hand positions, gives the cockpit a more authentic motorsport feel, and makes quick left-right transitions feel more deliberate. This is where most G29 owners notice the biggest jump in immersion.
If you split time between GT3, touring cars, and occasional road racing, a compact GT-style rim can be the better middle ground. You still get a more performance-focused shape than the factory wheel, but with a little more versatility across different car types.
A full round aftermarket rim only makes sense if you want to keep broad car-class flexibility while improving materials or grip texture. That's valid, but it won't transform the driving position the way an open-wheel conversion does.
